After graduation, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became a Navy journalist. I served as a Navy broadcaster and print journalist in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Diego Garcia; San Francisco; Naples, Italy and Rota, Spain.
In 2001, I served as the public affairs officer aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
After my tour aboard Bonhomme Richard, I became the Senior Enlisted Leader at the Fleet Public Affairs Center in San Diego.
In 2007, I deployed to Baghdad, Iraq and worked for Task Force 134, Detention Operations.
In January 2008, I took orders to the Navy's new Maritime Civil Affairs Squadron ONE, based in San Diego. I'm currently preparing for deployment later this year.
I attended the University of Maryland University College in Naples, Italy and Rota, Spain and earned by BA in History with a minor in Spanish studies.
I'm currently a Senior Chief Petty Officer (E8) in the Navy and am preparing to start my MBA/MS program with the University of Maryland.
I met my wife in Spain and both my children were born there. After completing my service with Navy, in four to 10 years, we plan on retiring in Spain.
