Abbejean Kehler

Abbejean Kehler, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 16, 2009 in Columbus, Ohio.  She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Tommy, Toria, Brent and Amee Templin; as well as brothers, Jim and Dave Templin. She was born in Baltimore, Md. on June 12, 1952 and earned a Masters of Economics degree from the University of North Dakota. Abbe taught undergraduate studies at several Universities including: Wichita State, Ball State, Indiana University, and University of South Florida. She developed a national reputation in economic education and was a highly sought consultant on many educational endeavors. and authored many handbooks and curriculum guidelines for economics and social studies teachers.
 
 
Abbe served as President of the Ohio Council on Economic Education, which advocates for economic and financial literacy for students in grades K-12, and provides professional development through a network of university-based regional Center for Economic Education. Abbe was also the Director of the Central Ohio Center for Economic Education, providing professional development for teachers and educators in Columbus and Central Ohio. Abbe worked closely with the Ohio Department of Education to develop state standards in economics and review questions for the economics portion of the proficiency tests. She was Treasurer of the Ohio Council for the Social Studies.
 
A memorial award was established by the National Association of Economics Educators after her passing.  The Abbejean Kehler Technology Award recognizes a NAEE member instrumental in promoting the use of technology to improve the delivery of programs in economic education. This award recognizes the contribution of Abbejean Kehler, who chaired the NAEE Technology Committee for several years and continued serving on the Committee until her death.>>
