After SCHS, I attended Calvin and gained a degree in Biology, and met the love of my life, Joy, with whom I've been married since January 1982. After a M.S. in Agronomy at The Ohio State University, then a Ph.D. from Iowa State University, I completed a post-doc with the USDA/ARS in Peoria, IL. I worked for Syngenta, Inc for 15 years ... evaluating experimental corn, soybean, sorghum, wheat, and sunflower varieties in the mid-South (KY, IL, NC, IN), then Director of Product Development in North America (lived in MN), and finally Global Head of Seed Production Research (lived in MN and France) ... before returning to Calvin as a Professor in the Biology Department where I remain today beginning my 19th year teaching. After six years as the department chair, one more full year of teaching, and then we shall see! A couple of sidelight gigs include teaching on the Graduate Faculty for Iowa State University from MI and up at Au Sable Institute in Mancelona, MI. I still love doing just about anything outdoors --- hiking, fishing, hunting, running, road cycling, vegetable gardening --- playing with five granddaughters and one grandson.
