Linda and I really truly enjoyed our visit to Great Bend, Cheyenne Bottoms, even the BCCC campus.  We loved crossing Kansas going and coming, during a well-watered early fall, stopping briefly with relatives along our route. The Class of 1970 reunion was  the high point. 

Please send us and the website  and the Committee your snapshots! Speaking of our hosts--super kudos and many thanks to the Reunion Committee!! 

Whenever possible we love travelling with local flavor, experiencing with friends and colleagues  their  towns and regions. Perhaps some time we'll be near you,  and get in touch  for a guided tour and to invite you to your favorite restaurant...

Just wanted to give a special thanks to the committee for putting on such a great reunion as all of you did an awesome job!  Darrell and I really had a great time.  I don't think there was one person that wasn't having a 100% fun.  That was great that the ones that lived so far away was able to make it.  Just goes to show what a great class 1970 was and is!  See you all in 2015, I hope!

My colleague-friend Dennis Montegna of the Philadelphia office of our National Park Service, will be in Great Bend soon--see link below.  Dennis headlines October 24 at the Barton County Historical Society, where I hope you'll be able to attend his lecture about garden cemeteries and Civil War memorials found there:

Dennis' topic and abstract remind me of the Nickerson, KS garden cemetery where some of my Huffman ancestors were interred. I've been there many times since, but when dear departed Mom first guided me to that cemetery,  I learned from the marble headstone that "General" Abraham Huffman had only been a corporal, after all! At least he survived the Civil War, came to Kansas, and sent me his genes! Huffmans and cousins farmed in Rice County between Nickerson and Hutch through the 1940s, I believe.
