Carol Deakin

CAROL LYNNE DEAKIN WILMINGTON - Carol Lynne Deakin, 49, passed away on April 29, 2000, after a brief illness.

A graduate of Grimsley Senior High School and UNCG, Carol also earned a double master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Substance Abuse Counseling from East Carolina University last summer. She worked at the Wilmington Treatment Center and opened her private practice at Alpha Counseling in Wilmington. A resident of Wilmington since 1986, she contributed to her community in many ways: manager of the Cotton Exchange; worker for United Way; Elderhaus board member and accomplished free-lance writer. She authored Wilmington: Treasure on the Atlantic and Co-authored The Insider's Guide to Wilmington.She leaves her dear partner for many years, Elizabeth Darrow of Wilmington; her parents, Sara and Bob Deakin of Chester, Va.; her brother, Robert Alan Deakin of Monroe; her sister, Claudia Camille Deakin of Winston-Salem; two nephews; two nieces; and so many loving friends.

Donations may be made to the Medical Foundation of East Carolina University, c/o The Carol Deakin Memorial Scholarship Fund, East Carolina University, 525 Moye Blvd., Greenville, N.C. 27858. The scholarship fund supports women returning for second careers in rehabilitation studies.
