Richard Edward Hendrickson (Hendrickson)

GREENSBORO Richard Edward Hendrickson slipped away peacefully July 8, 2016. He was born December 15, 1950 at Fort Rucker, AL to the late Edward Hendrickson and Bennie Tucker Hendrickson. The family moved to Greensboro in 1957, where Richard made many lifelong friends, graduating from Grimsley High School in 1969.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Hendrickson. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Susan Wright Hendrickson, his sister, Diane H. Caldwell, and his beloved dogs, Max and Bailey. Also surviving him are his nieces, Helen W. Parris (Roger), Kara H. Dunn (Jimmy), nephew, David Hendrickson (Misti), and their children. He owned Hendrickson Home Improvements, and had many friends and clients who knew they could count on him to take care of their homes. His height of 6'8" enabled him to tackle many jobs that others could not do, and he enjoyed listening to classical music while he was working. He did not care for crowds, preferring to work in his shop, walk his dogs, or go fishing. His kindness and reliability were cornerstones of his business and life.Richard was an accomplished musician and a mainstay on the Greensboro music scene from junior high school to the end of his life. Best known for his talent as a lap steel guitar player, Richard played in a number of bands over the years. He was a founding member of Newground, a country-rock band in the '70s, Jumpin' Junction in the '80s, and his current band, Slider. The music changed, but the friendships he made through musical collaboration lasted through the years, and his sweet soul music will be missed. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at The Blind Tiger on Sunday, July 31, 3 to 6. His friends and family invite everyone to stop by to share their favorite memories. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Richard's name to Triad Musicians Matter, P.O. Box 4454, Greensboro, NC 27404 or to a charity of your choice."We make a living by what we get.
