David (as many of us knew him) passed away in December 1996.

In 1997, the Community Foundation of Greensboro established the York David Anthony scholarship to honor his memory. The scholarship provides financial assistance to seniors graduating from Guilford County high schools who will pursue a degree in electrical engineering or electronics.

David would no longer recognize the places we used to walk north of his house on Roswell Court. What were deep woods in our high school days are now office blocks and housing developments. We talked about a million things on those afternoons so long ago. He was a dear friend, and though we had drifted apart, news of his death surprised and saddened me. I have always hoped that he found peace quickly, and that it has endured.

I have many memories about David. At Mendenhall we would discuss math theories together. Somewhere along the way we were in the same gym class -- it may have been Ray Pettibone's (was that his name?) class at Page. Anyway we were the two scrawniest kids in the class and the coach would make us wrestle. He would usually win. I thought I heard he was in radio and that would be a perfect fit for him. It is very sad that we lost him.
