IN LOVING MEMORY OF ROGER DAVID LANE Jan. 14,1960----May 11, 1996
Roger grew up in a family with three older sisters who loved seeing him grow up into such a fine person. The family has many wonderful memories of camping trips in all 48 states and Canada. We even camped in the Florida Everglades during Christmas,1967. He loved sports and the great outdoors. He and his father hiked nearly 300 miles together on the Appalachian Trail and he hiked many more with friends. His other sports include tennis, swimming, basketball and biking. He loved music and was a bass player in several small bands. He became a mentor to many as he was involved in Young Life in school. His love for God's creation was very evident to all who knew him. Roger really loved his 3 nieces and nephew and looked forward to having his own children some day. He left behind a host of loving friends who will forever remember him for being such a caring person.
A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, he had been a sales rep. for a Pharmaceutical company for nearly 8 years. Roger and Dana met in January,' 95 and it was clear that he had found the girl of his dreams. After a whirlwind romance, they were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Little Switzerland, on the Blue Ridge Parkway, on October 28,1995. They honeymooned in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. Dana was a sparkling person who added so much to his life, making his house a "Home". This lovely couple will be eternally in our minds and hearts. They were returning from Venezuela where they planned to go and teach English as volunteers. Roger had remarked to a friend that he had been given so much and he felt that it was time for him to "give back".

Roger was sweet, handsome, and always a gentleman. May his memory be eternal and may we find comfort in knowing he is in a place where there is no pain, sorrow, or suffering but only life everlasting.Georgette Megremis Galloway

Perhaps losing Roger to the Everglades was appropriate. After all, his love of nature and the outdoors is legendary to those of us lucky enough to have called him friend. He had little interest in following the crowd. Usually wanting to be outdoors, he often spurned more orthodox forms of entertainment. Spending time with Roger made life a lot more fun and a lot more interesting. Hikes on the Appalachian Trail, weekends in Little Switzerland, West Jefferson, a cabin on the Nantahala River, or a tent on Pilot Mountain always wholesomely reenergized the soul.
Dana was a great addition. She too wanted to be outdoors. A gentle spiritual woman, she brought a peaceful loveliness to those around her, especially Roger.
As with all who have lost loved ones, we yearn to be with them again. Hopefully some day we will. Until then, may Dana and Roger rest in peace right where they belong; in the great outdoors.
