Excerpt from an obituary in the GSO New-Record dated April 19, 1989. Sumbitted by Laurann Holder Hooks. Mrs. Sandra Tara McClendon, 28, of 4901 Lawndale Dr., #704, died Wednesday at Wesley Long Hospital. Mrs. McClendon was a Clinique consultant at Thalhimers at Friendly Center. She was married to Henry D. McClendon. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lupus Foundation.

Sandra and I were good friends as early as the first grade. I think she was probably my first real friend. We lived in the same neighborhood for 15 years. There were many sleep-overs and girl parties through the years.While riding my bicycle when I was 12 yrs. old, I had a terrible accident. The end result of that accident was a broken femur bone and long hospital stay. Not long after my accident, Sandra was hit by a car while riding her bicycle on Battleground Avenue. Her injuries included a broken femur bone and she was in the hospital for quite a while. I understood her pain only too well as it was another thing we had in common.
We stood by each other thru the good times and the bad. In high school, when the boys starting noticing her beauty (to include the "Farrah" hair style), we spent less time together. Even still, I distinctly recall a certain day when she was walking on campus and being escorted by some lucky guy. Sandra saw me and turned around, winked and smiled at me. I knew she was on cloud nine and I was so happy for her! She always said that her knight in shinning armor would come one day; and, she was happily married at the time of her death. I thank God that she experienced true love (something I have given up on).
Sandra Sills was a true friend to me and I miss her to this day. She came to me in a dream - after her death - to let me know she was fine; so, I know I'll see her in my next life.
