Joseph Benjamin Gentry, 44, of Cranberry Township, Pa., formerly of Greensboro, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in Pinehurst.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at Gospel Baptist Church, 5945 North Church St., Greensboro, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16.
“A living is what a man makes from what he gets, while a life is what he makes from what he gives.” No truer statement could have been made regarding Joe Gentry. While Joe was employed as a manager by RICOH Inc. in Pittsburgh, Pa., he gave his life to his family and friends. Joe dearly loved watching and coaching his sons as they played baseball and hockey. He was always looking after the welfare of others, careful that he did not become a burden to anyone. And, oh, how he loved his ice cream!
Joe is survived by his sons, Ryan, Nick, and Luke Gentry, of the home; mother, Bennie Gentry, of Greensboro; father and step-mother, Rick and “Cricket” Gentry, of Pinehurst; sister, Kristen Gavin (James), of Greensboro; former wife, Jeanne Gentry of Pittsburgh; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family gratefully acknowldges the care provided by First Health Hospice and Palliative Care in Pinehurst and, in lieu of flowers, request that memorials be made to The FirstHealth Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
