Sammie was one of the good guys. He was well respected because of his kind and gentle personality. He built a successful business with branches in several locations, including his hometown of Greenville. I hope others will write something about their memories of this nice guy.

Even though Sammy and I were not close friends, what I always remember about him is the smile he had on his face all the time.  He always treated eveyone the same.  He was truly a super guy and I know he will be missed by his family and close friends.  Sammy I will look forward to seeing you in HEAVEN.  Bubba

Sammy and I were at one time very close friends. We road bikes together in the 50's and went swimming in Fish Lake on Old Leland Road a few times. One bike trip took us from His house on Old Leland road to the Bouge Bayou South of Leand and back. Twenty or so miles was a lot for boys just about 13 years old. I do miss those days together.

Sammy, God Bless.

Sammy was good friends with Ray Dacus and the guys I hung out with on Airdale.  We were good friends and in those days, we had fun and could go to church on Sunday with clean hearts.

Thank you for always making me welcome!

God blest me with such great guys! When I taught HS many years,

I had some great stories to share about growing up and respect and trust.

Sammie was not an athlete. He was just a sweet pleasant guy who was nice to everyone. He always managed to come to all our class reunions. He may have come from Old Leland Road, but he worked hard and built a very successful business. He served his country and had a beautiful military funeral. We all miss him

Sam and I were best friends from late Elementary School through High School and into our adult lives.  He was an easy going fun person to be around.  We had a lot of good times during high school.  I remember a weekend night Sam, Byron Jackson, Red Robinson and I were riding with Harold McGarrh in his dad's van, getting into a bit of mischief, we ended up in the middle of a field in Metcalfe.  We weren't the "In Crowd" but a bunch of wild and crazy guys.  Later after I graduated flight school Sam and I were in Vietman at the same time, I flew up to Bien Hoa Air Base and visited him.   That night I took him on a Night Hawk Mission, he got a little Door Gunner time, he loved it.  After the military Sam and I remained good friends we drifted apart after Sam and Melaine moved to the Memphis area but when they came back to Greenville we tried to get together when we could.  I miss Old Sam.
