GREENVILLE, Mississippi - Funeral Services for Lynn Alexander Schaffarzick, 77, of Greenville will be at 2:30pm on Sunday August 11, 2024 at St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville. She died Monday, July 15, 2024. Burial will be at the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home.

 

Lynn was born in Greenville to Dr. Hugh Allan Alexander and Charlotte Jolley Alexander on July 3, 1947. She graduated from Greenville High School and graduated cum laude from Mississippi University for Women. She spent her junior year abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France, through the Institute for American Universities.

 

After graduating from Mississippi University for Women, Lynn worked as a speech language pathologist at the Cerebral Palsy Center in Greenville. When her husband was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, she set up the first speech therapy program in four army schools on post. After returning to Greenville, she continued to do speech therapy in the Greenville Public Schools and later taught the Gifted and Talented program in the Junior High Schools. Several years later she became a buyer and designer for the Decorative Touch in Greenville.

 

Lynn was a board member of Kings Daughters and Sons Circle #2, the Greenville Symphony League, the Delta Childrens' Museum, the Greenville Junior Auxiliary, and Greenville Garden Club. She served as president of the Junior Greenville Garden Club.

 

She was a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church. She served on the Vestry and participated in other church activities.

 

 

Lynn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. William (Bill) King Schaffarzick. She was a summer employee for 2 years in Yellowstone National Park where she met Bill Schaffarzick in the kitchen of Old Faithful Inn. She also leaves her son Will Schaffarzick Jr. (Brigette) of Maple Valley, Washington; her daughter Kate Schaffarzick Rooney (John) of Columbia, Missouri; her grandchildren Teagan Schaffarzick, Reid Schaffarzick, Gaines Rooney, and Xan Rooney; and her sisters Ann Brown (Garry), Allan Alexander, Charlotte Walker (Jeff), Mary Rundle, and Julia Ming (Jeff). She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Hugh Allan Alexander.
