I believe this happened just before Labor Day, 1966. I was home for the first time after getting married, and this horrific story was on the front page of the Delta Democrat Times. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I was a classmate and first cousin to Mary Elizabeth. She was known as 'Libbus Ann' to Pam, Edna Lou, Zelda ,and myself during our freshman and sophomore years. We had sleep overs and once we slipped in the back way to the drive-in theater. After that boys came into our lives. Her death will always be vivid to me. She was married in March before her death in July, my marriage was in August,my sister in September and all events were conducted by Brother Koon.
She hated her naturally curly hair . Jokes usually went over her head, as we say. She was upset when she was told she would have to change oil in her car. Then my mom told her , "You do know you have to change the air in your tires?" She believed her until we laughed.
In July she will have been gone 47 years . I still remember us learning the jerk and twist together. She will always be young and I look forward to seeing her when resurrected into the paradise earth. Rev. 21:3,4;John 5:28,29.

Mary Elizabeth died in a horrible automobile accident shortly after we graduated. The wreck also claimed the lives of her mother and sister.Delores Jones (Roof)
