After graduation I worked that summer as I had the past 3 summers. I attended Delta State College as it was called then, for one semester. I attended Delta Junior College at Moorehead the second semester & again the next year for my sophmore year. I was working 2 jobs, White's Store & Kroger Grocery downtown.
During the summer between my freshman and sophmore year I married a fellow classmate Patricia Duckworth, mother of my beautiful daughters. She was & is now a wonderful person.
I got sick on the way home from school one day. I was hitchhiking to get home so I could get to work on time, (quicker than waiting for bus). I passed out on the highway and a highway patrolman picked me up and took me to my truck in Greenville. I went to the Dr. and was admitted to the hospital for test, where I remained for 3 and half weeks. After very invasive exploritory surgery, I was diagnosed with Chrone's Disease. I have had trouble off and on ever since. As of now I have had (68) operations for various problems.
After my divorce from Patricia I married a lady from Greenwood, Shelia Green, mother of my very handsome son. He was married this past year and expecting a baby boy. They are naming him Wayland III (aren't I proud and they are calling him Wayland, Man is my head big?
I can't name all the positions I have held and lost due to my illnesses. Many of the surgeries have been for kidney stones (two hundred or more) & they will replace you at the drop of a hat when you are the manager and they need you to be there.
I was hurt on the job in Cleveland, Ms & had to have 3 back surgeries.
I was diagnosed with
a fast growing prostate cancer in Nov. 2007, received chemo until Dec. 2008. I was in remission until recently. I had to begin chemo again the 22 of April of this year. I go the 22nd of this month for my 2nd treatment. I have already begin to lose my hair again, so I may be close to hairless when you see me at the reunion, hopefully we will make it. That is our plan.
Five years ago I was fortunate enough to meet up with and marry a very wonderful and beutiful lady Joyce Coleman. I don't think I would be here today if it weren't for her. She gives me reason to live. For this I thank her so much.
For all of the class mates not living in Greenville, I am so sorry for what has happened to the city I was once so proud of.
I will stop now and look forward to seeing everyone at the reunion, Lord willing.
