Dr. Alan A. Smith, Lt. Col., USAF Ret, age 76, of Conway passed away on April 23, 2024.
Born September 24, 1947 in Grand Rapids, MI, he graduated from Greenville High School, Greenville MS. He was a graduate of Milsaps College and continued his education at the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry, Memphis, TN graduating as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He was a 20-year service member of the United States Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1993. He had a private dental practice, Smiles By Design, in Little Rock, AR until his retirement in 2011. He received many honors and recognitions throughout his career. He was affectionately called "Doc" by his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Vivian Trickey-Smith, a son, Shaun Smith, his wife Heather of Benton, son, Micah Smith, son, Bart Trickey and his wife Kelli of Conway, daughter, Michelle Trickey Rector of Greenbrier. He is survived by his precious grandchildren, Ryan Trickey, and his wife KayLee of Elkins, Jake Trickey and Lauren Havniear of Maumelle, Kevin Trickey of North Little Rock, Hannah Grace Kelly of Orlando, FL., Tyler Trickey of Fayetteville, Hadlee Rector and Bodie Rector of Greenbrier, Addison Priddy and Grayson Smith of Benton. A great grandson, Colin Trickey of Elkins, his sister Lynn Smith and her wife Deanna Stark of Memphis, TN. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and family members that all loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William "Smitty" and Maxine Smith.
It is well known that his grandchildren looked forward to "Doc and Gran Camp". Doc brought the adventure to camp. He may have looked forward to it more than anyone. He loved to travel and spend time with Vivian. He went out of his way to recognize and speak to others with kindness. He always showed compassion and thoughtfulness and never met a stranger.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you pay kindness forward and feed a child in need. The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Baptist Health Medical Center Conway for all their love, care, and support.
Graveside service with Military Honors, Saturday, May 4, 2024, at at 12:00PM, Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, North Little Rock. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following from 1:00-4:00 at Next Level Events, 1400 West Markham, Suite 104, Little Rock, AR. Arrangements entrusted to Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock.
