Mable Young Gaston died on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Miss, in Oxford, MS.

Funeral services will be held at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Dax Summerhill and Rev. Jimmy Vance officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon to service time. Burial will follow in Calhoun City Cemetery.

She was born in Calhoun City, MS, on April 21, 1926, the daughter of Robert T. Gaston, Sr. and Gladys Ligon Gaston. Her earlier years were spent in Noxapater, Grenada, and Ackerman as her parents moved but returned to Calhoun City where she attended and graduated from high school.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Calhoun City. She had been active in Sunday School and WMU where she has lived.

Mable received a B. S. degree in history and library science from MSCW in 1948 and a M. L. S. degree from the University of Mississippi in 1958.
For nine years she served as librarian at Forrest County Agricultural High School in Brooklyn, MS. From 1957-1979 she was librarian at Greenville High School and also served as Library Supervisor for Greenville Public Schools.

She served as visiting assistant professor of library science at the University of Mississippi during the summers of 1960 through 1968.
In 1979 she became a part of the Mississippi College faculty, teaching Library Science and serving as a Reference Librarian.

Throughout her career in education, she held membership and served as an officer in both educational and library professional organizations.
She was active in many. historical and genealogical organizations, serving in leadership roles in Isaac Ross Chapter of Colonial Dames XVII Century, Mississippi Chapter of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, Loosa Schooner Chapter D. A. R., Daughters of American Colonists, Southern Dames, Mississippi Huguenot Society, the Ligon Family and Kinsmen Assoc., and Calhoun County Historical and Genealogical Society.

She is survived by one brother, Robert T. Gaston, Jr. of Calhoun City; two sisters, Rebecca Gaston Dye and husband, Robert, of Friendswood, TX, and Bobbie Gaston Kenna of McComb; two nephews, Joey Kenna (Lynne) of Forest, MS, and Bob Kenna of Memphis; three nieces, Rebecca Dye Parkhill (Trent) of Winchester, MA, Margaret Dye Baker (Wes) of Webster, TX, and Robin Dye Martin (Don) of Richmond, VA.; and nine great-nieces and nephews.
