Yep Jane, I won the Shorthand award under Mrs. Stadlebacher.....Can't remember a dang bit of shorthand as of this day! But, Mary Ellen Radigan won the Home Economics award and I was totally devastated. I started crying, went to USM and majored in Home Ec and was president of the Home Ec club....Mary Ellen became a lawyer! lol Wonder if Mary Ellen can boil water?

George....I guess I'm computer illiterate....Can you add "Brown Eyed Girl" to the list for me. We use to all dance to that song at the Alley Inn in Leland...Great times those were. Marvin Lott was my dancing partner for alot of those dances. Marvin, do you think your bride will object to another dance with me to Brown Eyed Girl at the reunion? lol Thanks.

Gloria..I remember taking Home Ec at Greenville High..I think our teacher was Mrs. Cranston. All I remember about that class is making Baked Alaska and making a red dress in sewing class. Can't remember who all took Home Ec with us. Don't remember Maryellen winning that award, but then again there alot of things I don't remember!

Does anyone know where SGM is now?

Yes Martha....Our "little click" all walked over to GHS to take Home Ec under Mrs. Cranston. We followed the yellow brick road in front of the Bobby Henry Pool. Mrs. Cranston told us "Don't eat sugar because it was just empty calories" lol....I wish I had listened to her. They let us go early and leave early to avoid all the big bad Greenville High boys in the halls at the change of class. We were scared to death of them.

George, I can't believe you were ever scared of anything much less college.

Calling all Delta Zeta sisters....are any of you out there from the class of '69. If so, holler at me.

To my band member classmates. Looking back on it I wish that there had more interaction between the band members and those of us who were in sports. Heck, my wife, Cathy was in the band and I didn't even know her until I moved back from Jackson. I do remeber how much I enjoyed the concerts (I should have said so then, better late than never). As a football player we had our pre-game time in the gym. I remeber how exciting it was when the band lined up outside of the gym and the drum section lead the band onto the field for pre-game. We knew it was time to get your game faces on. Thanks to the band members.

I voted...but it was hard to only pick 5! I am glad to see Mustang Sally (one of my all time favorites) made it to the top. I seemed to have a "thang" for Mustangs growing up. Does anyone remember the time my brother Cameron put the black convertible at the bottom of the MS River? Too much beer that day! I remember the pic on the front page of the DD Times, and my dad dried that car out and we drove it several more years! Boy, did I ever get into trouble in that vehicle. Great memories.

Meriwether, I remember that...My sister, Laura, was with Cameron that day.

Wayne - thanks for the kudos to the band. We worked really hard to be the best, and proved it every year at State Contest.

Martha, etc
I remember Home Ec...I was wearing the dress I made in a picture in the 'Shield'. Also I remember Ms. Cranston telling us to buy some felt for something and I told her that I knew where "I could get felt free"!She wanted me to get all the felt and it took me forever to convince her that I was kidding.

Nancy: I remember the "felt" comment. Mrs. Cranston was out in left field and didn't have a clue! We hated her class but loved getting out of St. Joe to walk over to GHS everyday. They created that class just for us. There were no GHS girls in "our" class. I think the school administration thought we were "special". Special Ed that is! lol

I never fold sheets that I don't think of Mrs. Cranston.
She was the 60's answer to Martha Stewart.

Martha Tonos (Saia)

Mrs. Cranston was a "dear lady" and she WAS so prim and proper! Nancy, that is so funny about the felt!! I vaguely remember that! But we were all excited to be in that class!

05/12/09 12:24 PM #1348

Gloria Mansour (Traylor)

Martha: Mrs. Cranston sent all of us to your mom and dad's store (Bev-Mar) to buy our material for sewing class. I remember driving your mom crazy. She tried to wait on several of us at once and none of us could make up our mind what pattern or what fabric we wanted to buy, but being the merchant that she was, she was graceful and helpful, and as always, made those sales with your Dad keeping a watchful eye over everything! :) God I miss Bev-Mar....there is no where else like it. I can still smell the dye in the fabric and feel the sting of it in my eyes. PS....I especially miss your mom and dad too.
