"Rookie" how could you forget him. All the girls loved him and all the guys wanted to be his buddy. About as happy go lucky as they get. And a great baseball player.
You left us to early Rook.

Rook had the best pick off move to first base I have ever seen. Get back Joe Joe!

I am very sorry to hear that David has left us.I played with him at GHS. Sneaky fastball, great curve and a very easy motion, especially for a lefty. Good friend too. Nicest kid you'll ever find and very easy going. His mom would give him five dollars for the weekend and off we'd go on a Saturday night. Nice older brother too. I believe his name was Ronny.

David Coleman aka Rookie was my cousin. He was a very sweet and caring guy who never smoked or really drank that much. Mike Tubertini "Tubi" (who is now fighting his own battle with some type of cancer) was one of his very best friends as I recall. David fought very courageously against the cancer that eventually took his life at the tender age of 19. He played baseball when he was very, very ill all the while saying that he was not going to die, that he was going to get better. I will never forget the day he died...several of us (his family members were gathered around his bed at KDH), and he opened his eyes and asked his dad to rub his arm because it was aching, and he had a game to pitch at 6:00 p.m. Those were the last words David ever spoke. He left this world at 6:00 p.m. that very evening to pitch the greatest game of his life! David's life and death had a profound effect on me, and I will always admire and remember David fondly for his athletic talent as well as his kindness. His memory always brings a smile to my face. David G. - his oldest brother's name is Robert, the nice brother that you might be referring to is probably Jody.

my memories of David go back to little league playing for Standard Oil at Greenway Park.I was pitching & David was catching.David reached to catch the pitch & somehow the bat hit David's glove. We'll he couldn't catch & we didn't have another catcher so I was talked into catching for David. We'll you know what happened next, every time David would throw a pitch,I would turn my head.I got hit so many times that inning & each time David would laugh and by the end of the inning we needed another catcher.David laughed so hard at me when we went in to bat and told me I needed to take up catching full time.We both had a good laugh.David had such a good sense of humor & we played against each other through pony league ball at the air base and remained friends through the years until I moved from Greenville. He was a good person, excellent baseball player and a great friend & such a strong person.

I remeber the first time I met him.  At his home in front of Temble Babtist Church.  Riding a homemade skateboard.  Hey he was even good at that.  Turned it over and showed me how to build one.  A 2X4 and some nails she was ready to go.  That was cool.  And the 2X4 had to be the right length.

Fleating moments of time cannot be measured unless one remember's those moments. A thought, a wish, a friend shall always be remembered.  Even after all of these years, a few seconds ago in the span of time, I do remember.
