So very sorry to hear this.  I've hoped to see Jerry again for several years, having missed him at the 20 year reunion.  I have such fond memories of our days in GHS, and even seeing him later both down in Houston and later when he stopped by to see me and Mark up in New Jersy, when I was VERY pregnant with our first child.

He was one of Greenville's best!  Please send news as you learn more.  I am saddened by this news.

I am thinking of Jerry's remarkable accomplishments and his great heart.   Jerry, Mitch and I were in competition for the "literary award" our Senior year.    Jerry, a prolific writer since the eighth grade, most deservedly won the award.    Years later, when looking at my 1963 Vespa, I noticed on the awards page, that Jerry had circled that award ( under his name) and had drawn an arrow to my name with the note.... "This one should be yours, Perk"  Well, of course it most certainly belonged to Jerry, but I still remember having tears in my eyes when I read that.    Memory eternal, Jerry, memory eternal.

I just read these postings and am shocked at the news.  It takes me back to remembrances of Jerry in high school.  I remember after one (and probably the only) debate I ever did in my life, Jerry paid me a compliment.  It meant a great deal to me coming from him, as he was so accomplished in so many things.  I will miss knowing that he won't be at the next reunion.  My thoughts are with his family.  Jerry was truly remarkable.

Such a shock and a great loss to all that knew Jerry.  Privileged to have him as a classmate.

Jerry was a neighbor, friend, imminently responsible family man, and very capable attorney praiseworthy in every respect.  He was a graduation speaker. I remember his perfect delivery  because  my speech followed weakly, weakly in his footsteps.  I hope he did not suffer long. I offer my sincere condolences to his family. Sincerely, Paul Kossman

I am very sorry to hear that our friend, Jerry Hafter, has passed away. He was a truly good guy, multi-talented, faithful and devoted family man and he always applied his efforts judiciously to the task at hand. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Bless you Jerry.

I received a call from my brother, Cleve, Friday afternoon telling me Jerry was being treated for cancer at Vanderbilt.  This made me very sad, but I was shocked when Cleve texted me early Saturday morning to let me know Jerry had died the night before.  I, like others, had seen and talked with him at the Greenville in Jackson party the middle of August, and he looked in perfect health.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and son.  RIP, Jerry.  You will be forever missed.  Bobbette
