Randy Wheeler

Moved several times back and forth between the Dallas and Austin areas, and unfortunately lost touch with a lot of the great class of 79. I’ve been very fortunate to see the world while working as a field engineer in the electronics field from 1985 through 2007. In 2007 I changed career gears, settled back into the Austin area and hope to set down some roots, finally. I recently returned to school (after being out 23 years, OMG) to help support my career change into the IT field – and between work and school I have very little free time but enjoy it when I can. I’ve never had kids (unless you consider the dozen or so pets I’ve had over the years) but I’ve really enjoyed the experiences by interacting a bunch with my sister’s and several friend’s kids. I’m not married now (June 8, 09) but have a fiancé named Susan that has a fantastic and smart 12-year-old son named Michael.

Driving around Greenville with Larry James during Journalism class (supposedly selling ads) and amazed we never got into any (real) trouble.

After graduation and weighing 155 lbs (I checked one of the football rosters – 155 was really pushing it), I competed in some body building contests in the 80’s and 90’s. My favorite memory was placing third in the light-heavy weight division of the 1987 San Antonio Body Building Championships.

Not really, unless you count Catman Blakley calling me "Big Nose". (We kidded each other back and forth).

Study

Kind of a funny story… I worked out at this gym in Dallas in the late 1980's and had a friend that worked out with me every once in a while. Anyway, this friend said he was getting into wrestling and asked if I wanted to join him. I said, “No way, but you knock yourself out” but thinking to myself, “that’s a waste of time”. Then several years later I was reading an article about Stone Cold Steve Austin and the article had a picture of Steve when he had long hair… and that was the picture of my friend that ask me all those years back if I wanted to wrestle. He had changed his appearance so much I didn't recognize him.

I’ve met Troy Aikman; talked with Tony Dorsett at the now defunct Dallas Playboy Club (I can’t believe I admitted I was there); sit beside and talked with Brian Bosworth on a flight; met and talked with Drew Carey.
