Comments:

Let's see... left for the Navy shortly after graduation, spent 3 years in San Diego serving as a Hospital Corpsman (mostly at Balboa Naval Hospital and with the jarheads at Camp Pendleton).

After being there 1 year, married Dalene Field (Andrea Thomas' cousin). Spent first 2 years of honeymoon in San Diego (being 1500 miles from both parents is a *great* way to start a marriage).

After tour of active duty was over, came back to Texas to start school at Texas A&M - graduated in 87, then got Masters in MIS in 94. Went to work for A&M in 87 and have moved around in different departments on campus.

In 2013 we had a major "life change" - I retired from Texas A&M and THOUGHT I would get another IT job with some other company. Instead, that is when Dalene & I became beekeepers. TAMU offered to let me come back and work part-time, which I did until covid caused cut-backs forcing me into full retirement in August of 2020. I was not unhappy about that at all. Being able to work part-time (and then into full retirement) allowed us to build up beekeeping from just a hobby into a full-blown retirement level type business. Today we run between 60-80 colonies.

Other things:

* We homeschooled our kids and continue to be VERY active in those circles, despite the fact that our youngest is now married and homeschooling her own kids.

* I love to hunt and fish, but am much less fanatical about doing it than I once was. #1 on my "bucket list" is still to go on a combo moose/brown bear hunt in Alaska. I do make occasional trips to the Texas coast to go fishing in the bays as well as a yearly "pilgrimage" to the Kenai River in Alaska during the sockeye salmon run in July.

* Our youngest daughter works for American Airlines at the airport in College Station - which gives Dalene & I the opportunity to fly very, VERY cheaply. As a result, we have travelled a LOT in the past few years (see my trip to Alaska). As a retired person, I highly recommend having one of your kids work for a major airline! LOL

My daddy died back in 2008 after a long battle with lung cancer. We convinced my mom to move closer to one of us kids, so she now lives in Prosper (my brother lives in Celina). Which means, I really don't have much reason to get back to Greenville anymore.

School Story:

Let's see - when I graduated from high school I was 5'4" and weighed 125 lbs. Today I am 5'11" (and well over 125lbs).

High school isn't designed to be fun for short, scrawny guys. It was something I tolerated. I do love the friends I made there (even if I haven't kept in close contact with many of you).

Funny thing is - I grew 6" after graduating from high school (and put on a LOT of weight :-/ ).

Where do you live now?

Bryan, TX

Where else have you lived?

San Diego, CA (1980-1983) while in the US Navy.

Still have family around Greenville?

No

How often do you get back to Greenville?

Not at all since my mom moved to another town.

What did you do right after high school?

Joined the Navy
Married Dalene Field (Andrea Thomas' cousin) the following year (Aug 15, 1981)

What did you always want to do that you haven’t done yet?

Alaska or Yukon combo bear & moose hunt
Argentina dove hunt

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I *love* salt water fishing - in the surf, bay, & offshore. I took a couple of trips to Venice, LA to catch giant yellowfin tuna (so far, my biggest is 151 lbs). And I have now make almost annual trips to Alaska in July to chase the spawning sockeye salmon runs and go offshore for Halibut.

I used to train retrievers & play in the field games (qualified and took a dog to the nationals in '05). Retired from that game when it became work and wasn't fun anymore.

Recently just upgraded my motorcycle to a Harley-Davidson Softtail Heritage Classic. And then sold it and am planning on buying a bay-fishing boat.

What would we be surprised to know about you?

I'm a pretty open book. I would love to be president of the US, but would pizz off too many people to ever get elected (very conservative, finding myself more Libertarian and less Rep. the older I get).

The other big "secret" is that I had a crush on pretty much every girl in my class. But somehow, I don't think I was unique in that... LOL

I had known Rob since Travis elementry school.  Back then he was one of the biggest kids in the class - yet he was friendly and gentle, even to a scrawny little kid like me.  He is one that I considered to be a true friend all the way through our time in school.   I was truly looking forward to seeing him again at our 45th reunion.

I just saw (on FB) about Harry's passing. Growing up, I didn't have a lot of friends in school, but Harry was one of them. I remember him as one of the most well liked, loved, classmates in our entire class. Yet he remained a friend and humble despite his popularity. I always admired that about him.
He was truly a role model among his peers. I call that a life well lived.
