Philip Hokanson

Philip Walter Hokanson (Age 73) of Alexandria, Virginia passed away in his home on October 24, 2015 due to medical complications from a recent illness. He was born July 30, 1942 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to the late Revs A. Ephraim & Marguerite Hokanson. His older sister, Lois Kroeker, preceded him in death. He is survived by Lois's children Mark and Renee (Governo) and his younger sister, Eunice Durding, her children Warren, Ruth (Semler) and Joy (Walters), and Ruth's children Benjamin & Joel.

Phil did his undergraduate work at Seattle Pacific College in math education. After college he taught math at a school for mostly Native American children on the Olympic Peninsula. In 1969 he began a career as a math teach and later a computer specialist with the Department of Defense Schools. He served in Turkey, Germany, Cuba, Bermuda, South Korea and at headquarters in Virginia retiring after 38 years of service.

Phil was also very active in his church, singing in choirs from his time on military bases to his membership at Word of Life in Springfield, Virginia. After retirement he took part in volunteer mission trips to Mexico, Haiti, El Salvador, Poland, and Germany.
