SHAFER, John Russell age 59, of Hamilton, Oh, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital. Born March 9, 1953 in Dayton, OH to Robert Clarence and Alberta Shafer, nee Puckett, he grew up in the military, raised by his father and adoptive mother, Geraldine Nell Shafer, nee Jones. In 1971, he graduated high school in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and later received his associate's degree in Computer Programming from Southern Ohio College. He married on August 30, 1980 and had his only daughter, Kristin Nichole Warnock, nee Shafer, when he was 30. He worked at Miami University for over 20 years, earning many certifications and commendations. John enjoyed the outdoors greatly; camping, boating and especially fly fishing. He was intelligent, charming and humorous; remained young at heart and lived life to the fullest. He was greatly loved and respected and will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his mother, Geraldine Shafer of Englewood, OH; daughter, Kristin Warnock, granddaughter, MiKalla Elaine Warnock and son in law, Adam Warnock, all of Middletown; brother, Dennis Johnson of Hamilton; as well as several nieces and a nephew, aunts, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alberta Shafer of Kentucky; father, Robert C. Shafer of Englewood; his wife, Billie Elaine Shafer, nee Watkins; brother, Robert J. Shafer of Middletown; and many other family members and friends.
