Scott Messer

Scott Alan Messer, 64, of Guntersville, passed away on October 28, 2024, after an extended illness related to diabetes and vascular disease. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and under hospice care provided by Shepherd's Cove.

Born in Huntsville, Scott moved to Guntersville in junior high and graduated from GHS in 1979. Scott was known as an avid enthusiast of water sports including competitive water skiing, fishing and sailing. He was employed in the marine business as co-owner of Messer Marine and later as an independent marine service provider.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his wife, children and grandchildren, as well as a dedicated and loving caregiver to his mother, Betty Messer, at the end of her life.

As a competitive sportsman he loved the challenge of whatever activity he engaged in, whether it was water skiing, fishing or sailing.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Betty Messer, mother-in-law Sondra Bynum, and father-in-law David Adkins. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Paulette Messer; son Cameron Messer (Dani); daughter Sondra Champion (Jacob); granddaughters Isabella and Olivia Champion; brothers Dan Messer (Lisa), Russ Messer (Debbie); sister-in-law Lisa Havard (Matt) and brothers-in-law Ronnie Adkins (Melissa) and Joe Adkins (Rene).

Visitation will at Guntersville Memorial Chapel on Saturday, November 2, from  12:00-2:00. A private graveside service will follow at Guntersville City Cemetery will follow, officiated by Brad Howard.
