After graduation I worked for old Youngstown Sheet & Tube. Laura and I married on November 28, 1964. Working indoors got to be a drag so in September 1968 I got a job driving a truck. That was fun for 37 years until I retired in October 2006. In 1979, while working for Union Carbide, I had a chance to transfer to Minnesota and took the risk. What a wonderful decision that was. We have had a great time here.
Our son, Kevin, lives a few blocks from us and works at the same company I retired from doing the same job I did. Weird, eh! He has four children. The oldest is working in Fergus Falls, Minn. making countertops for Target and Best Buy. The three granddaughters are age 20, 18 and 15.
Our daughter, Christine, recently moved back to Minnesota after spend 15 years in the southwest. She worked for the Social Security Administration in Albuquerque and had a chance to transfer back to Minnesota. She now lives in Minneapolis working for HUD.
Laura and I live in Hastings, an outer ring suburb of the Twin Cities, that is on the Mississippi river. It’s the second oldest city in Minnesota and has many historic buildings. Our house isn’t one of them. We moved into a townhome when we became empty nesters and no longer needed a five bedroom house with too many stairs. Most of our neighbors are geezers, like us.
Sadly Laura passed away suddenly and peacefully in her sleep on August 18, 2016. Laura was my love and my life. I miss her terribly.
I spend my days just knocking around. The granddaughters keep me busy and there seems to be something to do every day.
