Jon David Hammersmith

After a very short college career, I joined the Army and was sent to Germany. I came home in 1965 went to work for Inland Steel for 6 months. I lived with Alan Bergman (class 61') in Gary.
In Jan 65' Alan and I left for a road trip that landed us eventually in Los Angeles. I stayed there about 4 years. During that time I married Patty Sizemore from Gary. We divorced. I returned once to Hessville in the summer of 1970 visited with Vern Grubb. I eventually returned to California and became a Horseshoer in Salinas (by Monterey). In 1975 I met and married Julie Ryan here. Jill and Rusty are my children with Julie. By my late thirties the "romance of the cowboy" started hurting so I got a real job in construction industry (roof & floor trusses), though shoeing part time. I did that here for 21 years then went to work for Monterey County Building Dept. Julie & are both retired since 09'. We have two grandaughters Chloe and Olivia.
I am pretty sure Miss Virden will correct this extensively. I know she is still around because I think of her even while writing Christmas cards!

Vern Grubb and I called ourselves the Class of 61' &1/2 we left Morton in January of 1962. This was not because of academic superiority. I went to Parsons College in Iowa briefly. In summer of 1962 Vern & I went to Hammond where He joined the Marines & I the Army.
