Judy Dale Snyder Sloan

Judy Dale Snyder Sloan, 71, of Albany, Georgia passed away on March 19th, 2018 at the Pheobe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

Her memorial was be held at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home Friday, March 30th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. A reception was held at the Community Room within the Albany Police Department.

Judy was born on September 5th, 1946 in Harrodsburg, Kentucky to Clinton and Ruth Snyder. After graduating High School, Judy joined the United States Marine Corps in 1965 and was stationed at Parris Island, South Carolina. There, she married Gary A. Sloan, Sr. and gave birth to her only son, Gary A. Sloan Jr. In 1977, Judy graduated with honors from Darton College in Albany, Georgia, with an Associate of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. She joined the Albany Police Department in 1977 as a patrol officer and retired from the Albany Police Department, assigned to the Criminal Investigative Division as a Lieutenant with 30 years of service. She also had the distinction of being the Albany Police Department’s Police Officer of the Year in 1999. Judy loved being a police officer and helping those who had no voice, the children and women, and dedicated her time to finding those responsible for their pain and suffering and getting convictions against them. Judy remarried in May 1980, uniting with Tom Katchmar, also a veteran of the Albany Police Department. They were married 36 years until Tom’s death in 2016. 

Judy enjoyed life, loved her family, and after retirement, spent most of her free time on the road to Florida visiting her son, spending time with Tom and their cats, and felt truly blessed by being in the room when Cassandra Sloan, her latest grand daughter was born in Brandon, Florida. She loved her family and she loved her friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Ruth; and her husband, Tom.
Judy is survived by her sisters, Sylvia Clarke, her twin sister Trudy (Tom) Tomkowiak, her son Gary (Jennifer) Sloan, Jr.; Her grandchildren, David (Carrie), Tommy (Dee), and Brent Sizemore, Kristen (Will) Holliday, Tanner Shirah, and Cassandra Sloan. Judy was also blessed with many great grandchildren.
