John Birdsong Obituary
John Birdsong, III (Johnny), 63 of Hartford, Connecticut passed away into the arms of his Heavenly Father after a long battle with his health. The eldest son of Deacon Bernice Birdsong and the Late Deacon John Birdsong, Jr., "Johnny" as he was affectionately called by his family was born on April 15, 1953 in Thomasville, Georgia and was raised in Hartford, Connecticut.
He attended the Hartford Public Schools graduating from Thomas Snell Weaver High School in 1971. "Be-song" as he was affectionately called by his classmates and friends, was an exceptional athlete; a high-jumping basketball player at a time when the professional leagues were looking for tall players, #44 could be seen playing a competitive game on the courts, including the neighborhood Keeney Park courts. He loved the game of basketball – he loved sports!
After taking some courses at Greater Hartford Community College, Johnny enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in January 9, 1975. He trained at Camp Pennington in California. After serving on various tours of duty, he was honorably discharged. After serving in the military, he married his high school sweetheart, Hazel Walker.
A beloved son, a true friend and protective brother, Johnny loved his family and most of all, he came to know Jesus and accept Him as His Lord and Savior. We can remember fondly his other loves: good food, cars, hot sauce in his potato chips, "stop calling my name "battery" and his infectious smile. He was a kind-hearted and generous fellow and fiercely loyal to his family and friends.
Johnny leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Deacon Bernice Birdsong of Hartford, CT; three sisters: Veronica A. Owens (Jeffrey W. Owens)(MD), Verinda M. Birdsong (CT) and Valerie D. Daniels (Elder Phillip U. Daniels, III)(MD); his nephews Jeffrey W. Owens II, Derrick Birdsong, Jr., Phillip U. Daniels IV, and one niece, Victoria E. Daniels; sister-in-law Carmen Birdsong, three great-nephews and two great-great nephews, and a host of cousins, (The Campbell-Dozier Family; Sampson Family, Lockett Family, Davis Family), relatives and friends. We are grateful to God for giving him to our family. https://www.hkhfuneralservices.com/obituaries/John-Birdsong?obId=12868974&source=tco_email&utm_source=email&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=obituary-
