I happily went to college to get away from family but never intended on getting a degree. Those who who were closest to me during high school might remember that my one goal in life was to be a stay at home mom. Instead I walked out with my undergrad (a double major in Speech Communication and Communication Disorders). I obtained a M.S. in Communication Disorders and for a long period of time became the "sugar momma" in my spousal relationship. I'm happy to report I no longer am the "Sugar Momma" but have a "Sugar Daddy", Jarrod finally brings home more than me. I've been privileged to have worked at Eagan High School in the Special Education Department with an amazing staff and even more amazing students since the 2000-2001 school year.
My most funny, honorable, and exciting memorable moments since graduating from HHS have been, first, working the Minnesota Vikings camps (food service) during the summer and having Warren Moon call my apartment shocking the heck out of my roommate who took the call. Second, sitting in my Research Writing class and having the class and the professor become confused by an aspect of an article we were critiquing and being able to provide the explanation to all. Third, Being told by this same professor that I should be getting a PhD (which I do not have an still have no desire to obtain). Forth, helping one student, with no capabilities to produce speech, learn how to communicate using a computer system, helping his family obtain a system for his personal use, and receiving the phone call from his mom (over the summer) that he wanted her to call me so we could "talk" on the phone. I can still hear him in the back ground speaking with his computer "I want to call Cheryl Matsch." Lastly, carrying, birthing, and bringing my children home from the hospital after experiencing 2 failed pregnancies just trying to have kids. There are so many more to choose from yet but I'll stop there.
I'm happy to report that I am content with who I am and where I'm at today. I hope all my classmates from HHS are as comfortable in there skin and with their lives as I am. I hope to stay this content for many years to come.
I have so many school stories that I share with my students from funny to serious especially when teaching social skills to them. My favorite one, which is a great example of me being inappropriate, is when I asked Mr. Warren if he had a little brother. I did this at the end of my 9th grade year of choir. Mr. Warren being a fairly new teacher to HHS and being young and cute, had a lot of high school choir girls crushing on him. My last week of school I walked up to him innocently and asked in a serious, questioning tone of voice if he had a little brother. Perplexed by my question he simple responded no he didn't and then asked me why I wanted to know. I told him I was just curious and as I walked away, rejoining my horrified, shocked, giggling girlfriends, I stomped my right foot loudly on the floor, simultaneously snapped my fingers and said "Damn!" I took 3 steps turned around and smiled at Mr. Warren, who stood there stunned, frozen, and with a very red face. I told him to have a nice summer and I walked out of the choir room. Him and I never spoke about this and I think he was a little frightened of me in the fall. Sorry I embarrassed you Mr. Warren but it was priceless to see the look on your face!
