Roy Stevens was certainly one of the funniest members of our class. I remember several instances of his humor and will mention one. At a performance of our Senior Show, the Gershwins' Girl Crazy (delayed because of the assassination of President Kennedy), Roy, as a New Yorker at a dude ranch, had hypnotized the villain and had him down on the floor acting like a dog. Suddenly Roy yelled, "Twenty-five! Get 'em!", and the bad guy started doing pushups. This certainly hadn't been done in the rehearsals. The boys in the audience (and the orchestra) roared, and the girls and the parents were probably puzzled. Twenty-five pushups was the standard punishment for sassiness or other bad behavior in boys' senior health classes taught by the gym teachers -- at least those taught by Sid Young. One time he made the whole class do pushups, and we had to do them in shifts, because of the lack of enough space between our desks.
I thought Roy had made it to Broadway, as many of us thought he would. What happened to him?

I was writing a comment and lost the page, so I'll finish with this...
Roy's bio on Imdb.com reads as follows: "Roy K. Stevens was an actor, known for As the World Turns (1956), The Time of Your Life (1976) and Beer (1985). He died on April 12, 1987."

My lost comment was something like this:
In the early 80's my mother-in-law came home from a vacation in Minnesota and showed me a playbill that listed Roy K. Stevens as one of the main characters in a play. It had a photo of our Roy Stevens! His theater group was traveling around the country. Some time before that I had seen him perform as a villain on the soap opera, "As the World Turns." This is all I know about Roy's career. Does anyone else know more?

Thanks, Joanne! He sure did do us proud, and I'm not surprised.
Does anyone else remember Roy reading the Bible verse (almost?) every day in homeroom at Brookline Elementary School? This was probably 5th grade. I think his favorite was Psalm 24.

A truly talented leader in our class. Funny &, seemed to have a joy for life. A very sad loss.
