School Story
After the base went to contractors my family moved to Utah in my sophomore year. Unable to cope going to several schools there I quit high school. When I decided to go back to school, I moved back to Hawthorne and enrolled in MCHS again as a sophomore when I should have been a senior. If you have a 1984 yearbook you can find my photo in the sophomore class. I got pregnant and moved back to Utah to have my baby. I tried to finish school there and went to an alternative high school for young mothers for a couple years. Eventually, I moved back to Hawthorne and I received my GED after encouragement from Ms. Pirodeau. I am very thankful to her for that. :) I even took a few college courses.
Anyway, for the time I was in school at MCHS I always had fun in Mrs. Steele's classes. She was such a happy nice person, her personality just rubbed off on you, lol. In one of her classes we did a make over of the counselor's office. The painting, reupholstering of the chairs, etc. I used those skills throughout my adult life and reupholstered a dining table's chairs. I also loved the cooking and art classes. I liked the football and basketball games and dances. I miss the Pack n Snack shop for their pizza and french fries. Also, Mrs. Gage at the News n Booze when I'd get burritos, chips and pepsi, lol. I enjoyed having lunch on the old courthouse lawn with my best friend back then Suzi Benscoter and various other friends over time. I hated leaving school the first time in late 1981.
