I have spent my last 30 years building a family, working in public education, and moving up and down the East Coast.
I live in Jasper, GA, with Broadus Ledford. The first time I saw him since graduation was our 30th reunion! We got married May 27, 2011.
After graduating from Western Carolina in 1984, I spent ten years in Lawrenceville married to Jimmy Smith from Hiawassee. We had two kids, Brook in 1988, and Vicky, also born in 1988 and adopted by us from Romania in 1991.
I spent ten years in Massachusetts married to my second husband, Art Bomengen, and raised three stepchildren plus my two. My kids are now champion snowboarders and can drive in any weather! I earned my National Board teaching certificate while teaching in Massachusetts. I went on to earn my master's degree from Seton Hall University.
Worked my way up the school administration ladder and came back to NC to serve for two years as principal of Highlands School. Spent the next three years as a charter high school principal in Atlanta and a regional charter school director for the East Coast operations of a national educational management company. I have worked in charter and district school administration in Massachusetts, Connecticut, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and California!
I earned my doctorate in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Miami Beach. In 2009 I started my own consulting company. I am now Executive Director of Provost Academy Georgia, the state's first virtual public high school.
