I left Montucky right after school. Worked in a gold mine in Lead, SD, while attending engineering school in Rapid City. Lost the job, couldn't pay for school and quit in 1994. I then took off on a walkabout and spent a couple years hitch-hiking all over the US. I ended up barefoot, pregnant and homeless in Chicago, and finally came "home" to the Black Hills. After Kiani was born in 1996, I decided that responsibility, and perhaps college, was a good idea, and, after changing majors a few times, finally scored an MS in civil engineering. I now work in private consulting with a water and natural resources group, occasionally teach a college math course or two, help run a natural food cooperative, and try as often as possible to get really high on steep granite, sandstone, or limestone.
