Our classmate Louis Wayne Porter passed away on June 20,2022 in Virginia. He had just had a heart valve surgery a week before. His 'little ' brother Terry Porter, Class of 1966, provided the information to share regarding Wayne. The boys grew up in a military family and lived many different places. Their Dad was a life long Marine. He fought in WWII, Korea and VietNam.
Wayne and Terry and their Mom moved to Hemet in 1962 while their Dad was overseas. Wayne loved music and joined the HHS Band and was the Drum Major his Junior and Senior years. If you remember, the Band won several competitions and played at Disneyland.
Wayne joined the Marine Corps after graduation but received a medical discharge for issues with a broken leg he got in a motorcycle accident right before high school graduation. He went to college, received his teaching credentials but couldn't find a full time position. He took the US GSA Test and was offered a job in the Office of Personnel Management in Washington DC. He met the love of his life, Elizabeth, and married in 1981. He was a member of the City of Alexandra Pipe and Drum Band and got to play for President Reagan. He belonged to many clubs and organizations over the years. He was a history buff and enjoyed performing in the Union Calvary Re-enactments. He loved riding horses and loved driving horse drawn carriages and wagons in his later years. He had a very interesting life being involved in so many different pursuits.
Wayne visited his California family often and never missed a Class of '65 reunion. He made friends easily and will be missed by many, and especially by his wife Elizabeth, and brother Terry and family.

I am so sorry to hear this. Our mothers worked together in the early 60's for a few years. I always enjoyed visiting with Wayne at all our reunions. My heartfelt condolences go out to Terry and their family. Wayne was by far the best drum major Hemet high ever had. No one could strut like him!!

Wayne was one of the good ones. Always friendly and supportive. Talked with him at the 50th and hoped to see him at the next. Too bad covid canceled it. Terry was a friend in high school also. Prayers to all of their family. See you someday in a better place.

I am so sorry to hear about Wayne. He was always so interesting to talk to at the reunions; always happy and uplifting. He had quite a life! When you read all the things he was involved with, it is a life well lived! He will be missed. My sympathies to Terrry and Waynes family. RIP Wayne...

Rest in peace Wayne. One of my memories came up on FB recently and it was a picture of Wayne, Jean McCorkle, and myself at one of the reunions. Had fun talking with him and hearing about his life. Condolences to his wife, Terry and the rest of his family.
