Remember that the Peace Corps was just getting started when we were in senior high? I finally got around to joining in 2003 and was sent to Armenia. I stayed for 3 years and taught English in a tiny village on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere. When I got back, I joined Toastmasters and gave my first ten talks on Armenia. I thought this would get it out of my system, but having had such an intense experience I find that it has altered me irrevocably. I now natter happily on whenever anyone mentions Peace Corps or Armenia. If they should be so insensitive as to NOT mention either, I find I begin many sentences with, "When I was in Armenia...".

For the entire time in school, I thought I was invisible. Anyone reading this is probably thinking "Dale who?" I was so shy that I was completely overlooked by the teachers and most of the students. My worst memory was the time in PE when we got to go on the trampoline. I got out to the center and froze. I really couldn't move. The teacher had to come and get me down. I cried. My best memory was finding out that I could drop PE and take Solid Geom and Trig instead in my senior year.

I e-mail Steve Lewis a lot. He has listened patiently to all my drivel and pretends to enjoy my Armenian tales. He is wickedly funny and gives good e-mail in return.
