Sharon Jaeger (Krueckeberg)

Sharon Jaeger (Krueckeberg)

Sharon Elizabeth (Jaeger) Krueckeberg, 79, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence following a long battle with heart disease.

Born in Waukegan, IL, she was the daughter of the late Carl Jaeger and Mildred (Archer) Jaeger, and the sister of the late Carl Jaeger. Sharon attended Valparaiso University, receiving a B.A. in History with minors in English and Education in 1963, where she sang in the choir and was active in social organizations. While at Valpo, she met her future husband, John H. Krueckeberg of Decatur, IN. They married in 1967, and were together until his death in 1984.

Sharon’s first career was as a high school teacher. She taught history, religion, English, and geography at Long Island Lutheran High School before retiring in the early 1970s to raise her children in the town of Northport, NY, where she lived until she moved to Woonsocket, RI in 2000. During that time, she worked for a number of organizations as a business manager and bookkeeper, including St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Suffolk Lutheran School, Nature’s Bounty, Best Way Tools, and Cross Country Computer Corp. While raising her children, she was also an active volunteer in her church, schools, and community. She designed and hand-stitched colorful banners for her church and for her son’s soccer team, developed and organized a library for St. Paul’s Elementary Lutheran School, was active in scouting leadership, was the local area coordinator for Long Island Blood Services blood drives, and was a leader in multiple parent-teacher associations.

After moving to Rhode Island, Sharon joined the Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church community in Smithfield, where she served on the alter guild and, for many years, organized and ran the annual Christmas Bazaar. She is survived by her children, Adam E. Krueckeberg and his wife Jennifer of Chestnut Hill, MA, and Annie M. Standish and her husband Jake of Charlotte, NC. She was the grandmother of Aurora and Evan Standish and Emily Krueckeberg, and will be especially missed by her cats, Harry and Blitzen.

Don, that is a lovely comment about Sharon: "Kind, pretty and smart." That is my recall from Deerfield Grammar School, too. Now we know how accomplished she was in her post-grad lifetime. Rosalie Ward Delaney Neuwirth in Philadelphia, PA.
