BOB RUBIN

Ron was one of the first people I met, in the 4th grade at Braeside, when we moved to HP in 1950.  He invited me to, what I beleive, was his 10th birthday and I recall being so excited, not only to be invited, but to be included in the big event... being taken to the movie to see "House of Wax" in 3D!

I lost track of Ron and reconnected when his family was in the musical instrument business and I was the musical insturment buyer at Mongomery Ward.  Lost track again after I left the industry and then reconnected again in a bridge group.  

All through his battle with Parkinson's I would make a point of taking him out to lunch every once in a while.  His caregiver, Jun, would always accompany us.  Jun spent 12 years taking care of Ron and is an amazing guy should you know anyone looking for a caregiver.

I think fondly about Ron and his family which I got to know over the years.

Betty was in my freshman Algebra class.  I always stared at her and admired her cutness

and innocence.  I never had enough nerve to ask her on a date.  Just one of my many regrets,

I REMEMBER, LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY, ERIC WAS RUNNING FOR STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT.

AT EDGEWOOD.   HE, AND HIS OPPONENTS, WERE MAKING THEIR 'VOTE FOR ME' SPEECHES IN

THE AUDITORIUM.  ERIC LOST HIS CONCENTRATION AND BEGAN TO STAMMER.  HE PAUSED,

LOOKED INTO THE AUDIENCE, AND REMARKED...'I GUESS THAT IT HAPPENDS TO THE BEST OF US'.

I RECALL A THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE, AND SHORTLY AFTER...A NEW PRESIDENT, ERIC ENGBERG.

WHO WOULD HAVE  GUESSED THAT HE WOULD END UP A WORLD CLASS INTERNATIONAL TV 

CORRESPONDENT.  AFTER THE 50TH, WE CONNECTED AND HE SHOWED AN UNUSUAL INTEREST IN

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT I WAS DOING.  I WAS SO FLATTERED.  

I REALLY MISS THAT SPECIAL GUY!
