I am deeply saddened to hear of Rolly's passing. So many of the posts here recall her genuine kindness, sociability and good humor. I recall these as well. I have many sweet memories of her particularly during those Edgewood years, hanging out and swimming at Wendy Olex Roth's home in the summer and regaling each other for hours with the best, worst, and most absurd aspects of being a tween. As I livestreamed her funeral today, I heard how these same qualities of kindness and care blossomed in her life through her love for her family, her devotion to her community, and her passion for teaching. Rolly was truly a lovely and loving person and I am glad our paths crossed in those formative years.
I am sorry to hear this sad news. Rolly was a sweet person.
Rolly and I played a piano duet together for a class performance at Ravinia School when we were in fifth grade. Rolly was an accomplished player. Me, not so much. I still recall the song that we played: Little David (Play on Your Harp).
I must have been a replacement for someone else because Rolly and I had only a couple of times to practice together. She was so patient with me and tolerant of my mistakes! It really made an impression on me. Sad to hear of her passing. My thoughts and condolences to her family and friends.
I am so sorry to learn of Rolly's passing. The comments I've read are all about how kind and friendly she was back when we were younger. I was fortunate to also know Rolly in her adult years and she was even sweeter, kinder and helpful than in our youth. Having worked for the Board of Jewish Efucation for so many years I would see Rolly or need her help at the Marshall Center. She always had ideas and ways to offer help. She touched many lives in a positive way. I hope her family will find comfort with wonderful memories of her. Rest in peace dear Rolly.
Rolly and I went ro Edgewood and HPHS together, she was always kind to everyone, easy to talk to and just a really good person. I enjoyed seeing her again at our 50th reunion, and even had the opportunity to visit in her home when I helped Stuart with a reunion project for his high school 50th reunion. I will always remember Rolly's beautiful smile - my deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with Stuart, Harris and Abra during this time of loss.
I first met Rolly freshman year in the world history class. I have kept in touch at various times with Rolly just living life and meeting by happenstance. I echo everyone's comments, memories, and tributes for and about Rolly...a loving, comfortable, kind, and 'present' human being. She truly lived an impactful life and shared her gifts with so many people. Hers is a life well lived. I am grateful to have known her. The sorrow that has been expressed at her passing demonstrates how much she has been and will always be loved.
It's been a long time, but I have such a clear memory of skateboarding for the first time in about 1964 with Rolly and Gail Stewart. Way before it was cool to ride a skateboard. I believe it was down her driveway. It is a fun memory to have of someone. I didn't know her well, but I sure remember having fun with her and Gail in junior high.
I was privileged to be a lifelong friend of Rolly and can confirm that the kindness, humor and concern for others that we saw in high school continued throughout her life. She was dedicated to her family, friends and her career as an educator. We were born 3 days apart and I always looked forward to celebrating our birthdays together. Rolly exhibited great courage and strength during her long battle with cancer and despite her own health challenges remained a supportive and concerned friend. I am especially grateful that I had the opportunity to see her last month at a gathering of some friends and relatives that her husband organized. She was in a wheelchair and quite frail, but was impeccably dressed with her dog on her lap and had a broad smile. Her ability to brighten the lives of others will always be remembered.
It's touching to read such loving tributes to Rolly. I remember her fondly, but now wish that I had known her better over the years. We would have had a lot to share.
