A northern Indiana police officer has died of heart-related causes more than a week after he fell ill while on duty. Forty-eight-year-old Robert Thornberry died Wednesday night at University of Chicago Hospital, where he had been airlifted. Kouts Police Chief James Boyce said Thornberry worked for Kouts police for a year. He says the department has lowered its flag and placed Thornberry's police car in front of the station as a tribute.
On March 8, a newspaper carrier saw Thornberry on a bench in front of the police station bleeding from the head and called 911.
Thornberry, who was sweating and disoriented, was hospitalized. While receiving heart treatment, a complication occurred and he never recovered.
