I married a farm kid from Ohio that I met while attending Valparaiso University. She eventually dragged me into the country to an old farm house, which just celebrated it's 100 year birthday. I must admit I do enjoy it here even though I have been fixing it up since we moved here 28 years ago. We like to travel and have been overseas to Europe and China. Hopefully, we will be able to continue traveling for quite a few years.

Phil, I had Mr. Blink my sophomore year when he started teaching. I really liked Social Studies, but many of the seniors in the class thought "Geography, easy class!" and it was anything but, easy. Russ Pinkerton was in the class , but I don't remember any other sophomores There must have been a few. We were entertained almost daily by Mike Dishno and Don Scanbelluri interrupting Mr. Blink with their observations about the weather moon etc. I t usually entailed ;Mike carrying on about drinking beer and watching the moon come out or other such nonsense. It was funny and Mr. Blink went along with it to some degree. Don was less entertaining than Mike and more just a pain. Mr. Blink had enough one day and threw Don out of the class. I thought it would come to blows, but Don finally did leave. I felt so sorry for Mr. Blink.

Back in the 90's I ran in to him at a craft fair in Chesterton. He was making clay pots if I remember correctly. He was very disgruntled with that class and said he almost quit teaching. I felt really bad for him. I could tell it still greatly bothered him. What a shame! He was a very good teacher and the class was very interesting.

These are water lilies in a pond at the tea house in Shanghai. While in China we visited three schools, k-12. Students stay Monday thru Saturday. The beds are plywood with a thin duvet. Class until4 then mandatory study hall 6-9. I was invited to a classroom with 50 students and no adults. They peppered me for 50 minutes with questions about teen life in the U.S. They are not allowed to date there and the girls have to keep their air short so the boys aren't distracted from their studies.

The Great Wall. This is outside Peking and has been repaired to its former glory. We walked about a mile up and down the wall. China is very smoggy all the time so it was difficult to get great pictures.

This is a monument dedicated to the soldiers(this side) and civilians (opposite side) who fought and supported the communist revolution. It sits about half way down Tiananmen Square.

This is the entrance to the Forbidden City, the palace in Peking. It is over a mile square and sits at the southern end of Tiananmen Square. There are 13 thrones throughout the palace.

Some of the life size terra cotta soldiers that were buried to protect the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty (the first in China). The building is the size of a football field and it is the largest of 4 or 5 other pits.

This is one of the fortresses on a corner of the city wall of Xian. The walls were over 30' tall and about 100' wide. Almost enough for a 4 lane highway.

The park is noted for it's sunsets and sunrises. This is the sunset. Only once every three days do you get to see both sunset and sunrise. We got up at 4 am and saw the sunrise along with over 1000 other people.

This was taken in the Yellow Mountain national part, a days drive west of Shanghai. We stayed in an unheated hotel at 7000 feet. There were over 10,000 steps carved into the mountain. The scenery was gorgeous.

No trips this year due to covid so I thought I would post pictures of our trip to China in 2005. It was an educators tour through Valparaiso University. This is a pic out the window of the tea house in Shanghai, our first stop.

This is one of the cliff dwellings at Walnut Canyon, Arizona. The homes were built into the side of an outcropping that was at the top of a isthmus 400' feet above the canyon. The path is only 3' with no guard rails.
