Fred and I knew each other through choir. Most people would never have guessed that Fred had a good singing voice but he sure did. Fred and I both joined the US Navy after graduation and attended Navy Bootcamp at the Great Lakes Naval Base where we were in the same company (Color Company #316). After Bootcamp we were assigned to sister ships and sailed together all over the south pacific for 3 years meeting in various ports of call from Subic Bay Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Guam, Australia and many other exotic places. Fred was my “link to home” while serving aboard ship. We both were discharged about the same time and met up back in House Springs a few years after getting out of the Navy. We visited each other a few times for a few years and slowly faded apart. I didn’t learn of Fred’s passing until a few weeks ago when I joined this site. I am truly saddened by loosing Fred but I take solace knowing that we will meet again someday. Rest in peace my good friend and shipmate.
