Yeah I know! The one Ronnie bought me my junior year (the one with the teddy bear and everything) cost about $120-130. I don't remember the exact price but remember it being somewhere around that range. Considering that was in 1988 can you imagine how much that same mum would cost now? No wonder my mom took my mums and recycled them! It was a lot cheaper than my brothers going and buying them. Let's see wonder how Rodney Driver (9th grade year), Eddie Palomarez (10th grade year) and Ronnie Becka (11th grade year) would feel to know that their mums they bought for me eventually ended up on one of my siblings dates?......LOL. Even though I can't remember what all the mums looked like, at least I can remember who my dates were right?....LOL.

Hey everybody-On the mum thing-I finally threw mine out a few yrs ago.I did save some of my stuff from it though. But I guess I'm not that sentimental,I begin to think of it as junk after a while.I'm bad I know, but I do try to save most of my girls' things. They also have reused their mums every year. Out here, the elementary kids wear them. When I was in P.T.O. we made mums for the girls and garders for the boys for Homecoming. We did that for a couple of yrs, until they began reusing them.My daughter is reusing hers at the Jr.High. now.Small town, with one elem.,one Jr.high, and one High school, means they really get into it.We even have a big Pep-rally in town.
Hey-Deana-remember making our mums together? That was fun!We decided to be different and have true gold ribbons on ours.We thought we were so cool!

Jonel- painting your room that way is one of my fondest memories. I can't believe it is still there, that's great. I think it was just us 2 that did it. Soooo much fun.

Deana Sampson (Jenkins)

Shelby had a JUNIOR ask her to Homecoming...A JUNIOR!
I just had to see this kid...so we all know today's point of reference is myspace...she shows me his page...Good lord people, he's tall, cute, into music...and has a freakin car better than mine!!!! If I was her age I'd be crushin on that kid!
She knew it would make me faint...He also wants to take her to the dance at the end of the year.
(thump)
Ya'll keep chatting while I lie here on the floor and gather myself...

Deana Sampson (Jenkins)

Oh Sheryl...we were cool, I had almost forgotten about that! I remember us being adamant that we were using the REAL GOLD and not the orange-y - yellow gold!
Ahhh, if all of life's decisions were that easy...LOL

Jonel Bishop (Lockler)

So the question is Deana... are you going to let her go? And are you going to follow and spy the whole time ;)

10/17/08 10:19 AM #1289

Deana Sampson (Jenkins)

Spy?
Me? SPY?

LOL...I have to breathe first before I let her out the door.

A JUNIOR WITH A CAR!
hmmm
I think Mommy will drop her off to meet him at the game/dance. (I'm such a freak)

He has a BMW.
She is not Molly Ringwald.

She actually had the nerve to reference that movie to me...WTH? Don't throw my 80's at me young lady!
She's good...LOL

Deana-just remember what a jerk that other guy turned out to be in Pretty-in-Pink!
I dated someone older in my 9th & 10th grade yr.I found that to be one of my biggest mistakes! Those older guys can be trouble if you're not careful! Jenny you might have some advice on this same subject. It turned out we both were dating the same guy.Can you believe that? Anyways, Jenny and I became friends later on in our Jr. year. Then, we just compared our stories and just put it behind us. Just letting you know to be careful! Bmw! Cute and Rich! What a Combination! That ones hard to pass up! What's his grades like? LOL!!

Deana Sampson (Jenkins)

I guess I must be getting laid back in my old age. I let Lauryn (a freshman at the time) go to prom last year with a junior. He normally drives a Chevy Truck, but for prom his mom let him take her corvette so Lauryn didn't have to try to climb up in that thing in a dress..LOL. Of course I don't live in Houston anymore...LOL. I live in a really small town. When I say small I'm talking really small. This town is so small that everyone really does seem to know everyone. I will go into the corner store and the people who work there will tell me, "I saw your oldest, she was just in here an hour ago". It's like that most the places you go around here. The prom is held at the Rotary Club right around the corner from the school. There are very limited amounts of places you can to eat around here, so you don't seem to have to worry about as much. Someone is always willing to tell you, where they saw your child and when at pretty much any given point and time of the day...LOL. In some aspects it's nice, and in some is so totally sucks! The nice thing about it is, if you want to know something about someone all you have to do is ask, that person either knows that person or has had some kind of dealings with that person. The bad part is, no matter what, everyone seems to know your business. As one person put it, "you can't burp in any direction without someone knowing what you had for dinner".

Vicki-you just described my town.Small town-small minded-is what I say! Living in the big city all those yrs definitely had its advantages.I miss having choices and I get tired of being limited to things or people. You take the good with the bad, I guess.
Deana-You also know that Kevin is four yrs older than me ,right? You know it all depends on the kids maturity level. Right now my 12yr old acts like she is 16 and looks 16,too, so believe me I'm already freaking out.Oh and she doesn't even were make-up yet.The boys at school already try to butter me up to get to her.Maybe I'll watch and learn from you Deana, since you're a couple of yrs ahead of me! LOL! Where is that book with all those answers in it,anyway?

Sheryl-We have a joke in our house. "I don't know hun, they didn't come with a TM" I always have to word stuff in regards to the military for my husband to get it. When we got married my girls were older than his. Amy was 11 and Lauryn was 9. Something would happen and he would say, you tell me, I don't know what to do, I've never dealt with a 12 year old before. I would just look at him and say hello, I'm new at this too! This is my first time with a ___ year old child. "I don't know what to tell you hun, but they didn't come out of the womb holding a training manual in their little hand." I have learned some things over the years. One is every child is NOT the same! Just because something worked with this child doesn't mean it will work with another one. Of course you also have the fact that just because this one did this or that doesn't mean the other one will. My girls are as different as night and day. The other thing I've learned, some times the rules are different! Because my girls are so different, I might not have let one do something, but I have let the other. They are not the same child, I could trust one in a situation, but not trust the other in the exact same situation. You have to treat your kids as individuals.......children are not made by cookie cutters.

You guys are too funny! My parent were super strict and I was not allowed to date until I was 16. My highlight in life was when Sheryl got her license and I could actually leave the house with out a parent...remember that...LOL. We did the same for Nikki. But we had a 2yr age limit and no one over 18 until her senior yr. But she did group date a 15...ya know movies and dances, stuff like that but I think the age rule helped alot, we were able to say yes but still set limits and expectations.
But on a happy note...my Robert has a girlfriend....I know.... and he just had said girls are gross. Go figure. But it's one of the girls they have known for forever and she is just the sweetest. Wow I am in shock though...Robby...a girlfriend...he's growing up:( He did Colorgaurd for homecoming tonight. It's nice how all the older boys watch out for him! Just another one of those small town benefits:)
I hope my boys will be easier than girls....Jenny, how did your mom survive it all???? I may need advice:)

Becky-I remember your mom giving me the keys to her car, so we could run to Gerlands for her.I still can't believe she let us do that.I'm not sure if I could ever do that with one of my kid's friends in the future. That was so crazy! But we had so much fun.I could come to your house to smoke cigarettes and drive. That was way cool! (LOL) We always had a good time. So how is your family doing? Tell your mom I said hello!

Hey B, funny you mention the 2 year age difference. That is one of our rules. Now, last year Lauryn did go to prom with a junior when she was a freshman. Here is the deal though. She was 15 at the time, but he was only 16! Now, she's 16 and he's 17, his bday is April 9, 1991, and her's is June 15, 1992. I've had a few people who have gotten all bent out of shape at me for letting my freshman date a junior. They chill out when they realize that Lauryn went to Pre-first in between kindergarten and first grade. If you take that out she would have been a sophmore last year. There is only 14 months between the two of them.

Hey -Vicki--We must have been typing at the same time! I finally get to catch-up with you! I did see the V-ball cake. You did a good job on it! I've been missing your calls,I've been checking in on here, but don't get to spend much time on here. Everyone in my house, has to get their time in,during the week. We're always fighting over the computer,it seems.

LOL>........I know! Girl I am exhausted, volleyball season is over, the concession stand stuff has been packed away. The girls have another Conf. Title under their belt. We are doing their vball party on Nov 2nd. I am telling you there is not enought time in the day. The good news is, I spent 5 days cleaning the house after Amy moved out. Over a week later the house is still clean! I'm telling you, the only thing I've had to do in what is now Lauryn's bathroom is take a windex wipe to one spot on the mirror where she got a smudge. I vacuum every other day and do the kitchen daily, but other than that, nothing! It has been so weird not to have to walk thru the house every single day picking up stuff all over the house that has just been left, by someone.

You need to come down here and clean mine.I have to clean some stuff out for a garage sale I'm having next Sat.I've been wanting to have one since July. This yr it has been one thing after another.I messed-up though.I wanted to have it today, but when I put the ad in Fri.before last,I put the wrong date. Oh,well it gives me extra time to get it all together. My kids are going to love me this week-end. I'm putting them to work in their bedrooms.

10/18/08 08:44 AM #1302

Sheryl Morris (Gilmore)

I know what you mean about always having to pick up after someone. When I want to clean I get so over-whelmed by the stuff my little Kayla-bug leaves out for me.I'm hoping she'll learn to get better before she becomes a teenager!
Oh, yeah, my time is coming. I also have to work the concession stand in a couple of weeks. I hate it there is only a hand full of people that ever help at all. It's either work or pay $30. I don't mind working, but when there is a list of over 200 people scheduled over four nights and you're the only one of 4 people that shows, it can make you really mad! I'm always one of those people they always depend on too!

10/18/08 08:48 AM #1303

Vicki Johnson (Patzold)

Don't count on it! I have always suspected that Amy Marie was my little pig, now I have my proof....LOL. I kept telling Lauryn we were going to find out one of two things. Either Amy was the pig, or she was going to have to really start picking up after herself, cause she won't have her sister around to blame it on...LOL. Lauryn is seldom home herself she's so busy. Maybe that is the biggest difference, I pretty much don't have either girl at home. I'm serious, I think the only time Lauryn is home is to sleep.

10/18/08 08:57 AM #1304

Sheryl Morris (Gilmore)

That's funn-ny!I like to believe that my Kayla-bug is going to turn-out to be completely opposite of how she is now! I like to believe she is just talented in other areas, that are totally different than mine and my other daughter's.Atleast that's what I keep telling myself!LOL!

10/18/08 09:03 AM #1305

Vicki Johnson (Patzold)

Amy was a complete pig at home, leaving stuff every where and you seldom saw the floor in her room. However, she now has her own place. She gave me a key the other day, cause I was going to take some stuff over there while she was at work. I could not believe my eyes! Her room was clean and bed made. There was not one dirty dish in the sink, and her bathroom was even clean. I guess Amy is a lot like me in those aspects. I hated to clean my room when I lived at home, but as soon as I moved out, my house stayed clean. Well that was until I had children and they got old enough to start making messes...LOL. When Amy was little (under the age of 4) I could get her to pick stuff up when she was done. I remember when she was 3 she would actually pick her toys up and put them away. As she got older that went to the wayside. Maybe now, she's starting to lean more towards the cleaner side. I can only hope right? As far as Lauryn is concerned, she does help keep stuff picked up outside her room. Now her bedroom is a total different story...LOL

Sorry Vicki- my niece took over for a second, I read her the messages about the whole older guy thing w/ Shelby. She and I were talking about the whole Pretty-in-Pink thing and she felt compelled to give her some advice.Anyways, I myself-like the 2yr age difference limit, yall were talking about.Atleast until there out of High-school.The only fear I have with that is being in a small town.My daughter's already saying-she's done with these boys around here and she hasn't even had a boyfriend yet.I feel bad for her, there's not to many cute and mature ones here!
