I'm gonna have Cody suggest that they do Christmas care packages for Montgomery High School to send the troops. I will also save what I can to give.

True B- I'm sure he knows some people deployed right now as well!

Jen-if you do a toy drive and collect a bunch of soccer balls the best thing to do would be to deflate them, and then send a pump with the box. You can fit more into a smaller box to save on shipping and as long as they have a pump they can re-inflate them in country. I know probably sounds like a pain, but you figure in the cost of using a smaller box versus a larger box basically filled with air and there is a difference. Can you tell I've done this alot?....LOL.

You know there really is something to be said about the Class of 89! As much as I appreciate the contributions to the troops, Deana's cause is the homeless, but I know there is more than enough to go around for everyone. I love you all so much. You help me to feel like I'm at home, even being 1500 miles away.

Thanks Becky... You also have a beautiful family.
Yes. We had so much fun at that party. I have more pics but I didn't want to post them all. I told my hubby that I will be having another party. Maybe after the first of the year. We busy ladies can use a night out once in a while and I had so much fun putting it together.

I don't remember who said it (I think it was Brenda) but I like that.......Tigers Give Back!

I think that has a pretty nice ring to it.

Deana-I am pulling this list of things together to send to you in an email to post on the home page as becky suggested.

And we should really thank Deana....ya'll remember a million pages ago, plus in her blogs and stuff about how she has always wanted to do something big. If you ever read Deana's myspace page or anything she has ever written its always about the bigger picture, she's always thinking about what she can do for someone else before herself. I just think if we can help her to jump start her dream and be a part of her bigger picture that in it's self is a honor!

Deana Sampson (Jenkins)

Okay, It's early this morning and I'm catching up here on the forum before I head out this morning because I won't be online until later, and I'm already tearing up. Thanks you guys.
Love all around.

Hey V, I am working on the list now to get it up before I go. I will tell ya this. The less fortunate people in this world have just always tugged at my heart. I seriously cry when we pass someone on the road that is in that position. You guys, I will tear up and just cry. I often feel so bad for complaining about my woes when I pass someone worse off than me. It humbles me to the core. I make anyone and anything my cause to be honest. WHere there is a need I want to do what I can. My family is sprinkled with service men. Beau was in the Navy and served in Desert storm. My dad was in the navy as a gunner. Served in a war as well. I just don't have anyone close to me that is there now except my fellow man. I am happy to do anything I can to help our troops as well. I am so glad we all can do things like this as a group. It's not always how much you can do, but just that you do.

I took our Hurricane Ike section down to start a small give back section. We can highlight anything that anyone holds close to their heart. I will also post the troop list there as well. If you have anything, let me know. There is one thing I do as well throughout the year with Shelby and that is make holiday cards. Homemade out of the simplest of things. You create them and send them to this volunteer organization that distributes them to the elderly on Christmas. You can even meet up with them to visit the elderly to deliver them. I always liked that one because it is something Shelby could do from time to time and it was saved and sendt out at Christmas. Christmas day we will be volunteering a few hours to deliver meals to the elderly. This will be the first time I do this. I'm looking forward to it.

Have a great day my big hearted Tigers.
I love you all.
Tiger Paws with a big hug all around!

Good Morning ladies:
Our service men are the best and deserve all our thanks and hugs and kisses. My sisters two sons are both Marines. Her oldest has finished his service and now works for one of the security companies in Afganistan. The youngest will graduate from boot camp the day before Thanksgiving. When Brent was stationed in Iraq she would send him and his friends huge boxes of goodies. The littlest things made their day. Magazines, books, little toys, wet wipes. People think it's not much but it is really huge to these guys serving away from home. We know Zach will be heading that way soon enough so keep his safety and my sisters heart in mind.

Well I had written this really insightful message last night, but then of course there was an internet problem and it was lost! I so hate when that happens. I'm going to attempt to remember exactly what I typed last night.

I think we all try to look at the bigger picture (as Becky said about Deana)we just do it all in our own different ways. For Deana it's helping the homeless, by giving out gloves or taking a sandwich to the guy on the corner. For me, it's inviting those guys who are far away from home and can't enjoy a home cooked meal during the holidays. It's also being a fill in mom for a little girl whose mom passed away a few years ago as the result of breast cancer. It was about this time last year that she said to me "you are my new mommy" The fact that she thought enough about me from spending all the time over here to allow me to be that mom figure in her life really pulled my heart strings. My bigger picture even includes being there to hug guys who return from Iraq or wherever who don't have family here waiting when then get back. Becky's bigger picture was taking care of her neice after her mom died. Sometimes that bigger picture can't be seen right away. The bigger picture might be taking that kid home from practice or the game because they don't have a ride. Several of us are familiar with the story of Henry where he said he still remembers the rides home a band buddy's dad use to give him after practice.

Some of the things we do might seem small to us, that ride home, being that mom that bakes cookies and gives out hugs, making an extra sandwich or buying an extra pair of gloves when you are walking thru the store. What seems small to us, might be something big in someone else's life. I think if we all could remember to just do something small, the BIG picture will be taken care of. I am remember a line that Anne Frank wrote that I really do think applies here,"despite everything I believe all people are good at heart". I really do think this is true. Just look at our class. There are so many that have done little things to help others they just sometimes go unnoticed. Things that might have seemed small to them but big to someone else. Deana, Jonel, and Becky going out of their way to get batteries for my grandmother after hurricane Ike. Several came out of the woodwork to offer assistance to Jonel. Lord knows we have all been putting our 2 cents worth in to plan Deana's wedding (ok she may or may not be appreciating that one). I still think we all look at the bigger picture, we just do it in our own individual ways.

Jonel-you will have to let me know where Zach, gets stationed, granted that will be a few more months. Once he finishes boot camp he will have SOI or MCT then he will have his MOS school (MOS school last anywhere from 6 weeks to 18 months depending on the MOS). If he gets stationed here at Camp Lejeune you'll have to get with me. I live right outside the base and I'd be more than happy to have him over for whatever holiday he's here. We could probably even work it where he could come to dinner from time to time. Life as a new Marine can sometimes be trying.

Very eloquently said V!!!

I know that from time to time - well more than not- we get all caught up in our own busy schedules...it is however very refreshing to see that we all do what we can, when we can, to help someone out. For us it is one person, but if we continue to inspire and encourage one another, I think we make a pretty powerful team - who can continue to make a significant impact! If for no one else it should be for our own hearts - just to keep us grounded and whole.

thanks Rach, but last night's message was better written...LOL. Our class is amazing aren't they?

I'm sitting here on pins and needles waiting for word from my daughter. We find out today weather or not she was selected for Sophomore Princess.

We are amazing - it's TRUE! Now what's even more remarkable is how we can switch subjects and keep up with one another - from world events - to events that are REALLY important!!! OMG Sophmore Princess huh? How many girls are competing?
