Steve Halvorsen

I was in Social Services in The Department of Human Services with a jobs program. Victoria Adult Learning Center, helping older students work on GED or High School diploma Programs. I was with The Commission for the Blind as a Childrens Caseworker.
I was blessed to be the Executive Director of Victoria Christian Assistance Ministry 1997 - 2007.

For a year 2007 - 08 I got to be a Chaplain with Hospice of South Texas.I had a chance to work with a classmates family before her mom passed and then was able to visit with her dad some before the budget cuts ended my chaplain career.

For six years, 2004 to present, I have served as Associate Pastor for The Victoria Mission of Hope, a ministry to the homeless in So. Victoria. I was also Associate Pastor of Eternal Faith Baptist Church. I am an Ordained Minister in the Baptist Church

In 2011 I went to work recruiting volunteers for Golden Crescent C.A.S.A. here in Victoria and left in 2012 to become a caregiver for my wife Maria.

Maria passed away in January 2016 from complications from pneumonia. We were just a couple of months shy of 37 years of marriage.

After graduation I joined the Navy, something I had always wanted to do. My father and mother met in San Diego she was a Wave. Dads brothers were Navy as was grandfather Halvorsen. Mothers brothers Edward and George were in the Navy as well.

After coming back to Houston I worked two years downtown at Texas Commerce Bank before deciding to go to school.

I graduated from Stephen F Austin in 1975 with a B.S.E.D. in Social Work and Rehabilitation Services.
