High School Memories
I Remember When...
There were only 4 channels on the television (2, 8, 11, 13) and the signed off at midnight.
We did not have the following: Playstations, Nintendos, X-Boxes, video games, 150 channels on cable, movies or DVDs, surround-sound, CDs, cell phones, personal computers, Internet, chatrooms, microwaves.....
The Beta Max VCR and the first cell phone that was very large and you carried it around in a suitcase
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because, WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day--AND--we were OK. As infants and children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags. The Jackson Five came on the Ed Sullivan Show for the first time
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
Majic 102 first came on the air and played non-stop jams with no commercials
Being in French class writing notes, reading novels, and antagonizing Mr. Banks
Going to Dussen Park for picnics
Going to Orlando, FL and getting kicked out of the motel in the middle of the night and having to return to Houston.
Taking Algebra from Ms. Alexander
Going to the HISD board meetings to talk to the Superintendent, Billy Reagan with the Student Council
Participating in Pep Rallies on game day
