Steven Robert Chew

After Huntington, I went to Pomona College, then USC (marine biology) and finally UCLA (dentistry.) I was in the Navy for two years as a dentist with the Marines and then started a private dental practice in Tustin for 37 years. I sold the practice this year and now work one day a week for the transition to the new owner (my friend and associate for 16 years.) Now pretty much retired with a kid who is a junior in Laguna Beach High School, I watch him play waterpolo, swim three times a week myself, work around the house, read a lot, go to the beach, and enjoy hanging around with my wife and getting to enjoy Laguna.

Probably the most enjoyable memory that I can talk about is the time Doug McGlone talked me into being involved in hanging Vice Princpal, Scott Flanagen in effigy from the bell tower. I was in my one and only play, "Lady in the Dark" and had only one line,"Would you like to take a little walk, and have a little talk with me/" which I said to Kathleen Turnball (then a senior;me a sophmore)and then kiss her (Hey why do you think I wanted the part?) While I was back stage I was to open the locked back door to the bell tower and then McGlone and Bill Page could get in and do the dirty work. The next morning as we arrived in the buses out front there was Flanagan handing from the bell tower. Everything went great until the year book came out and McGlone signed them by putting a circle around Flanagan's picture, writing "I hung him" and then signing Doug McGlone. Minutes later McGlone and I were called into Flanagens office a true case of guilt by association.
