NEW FACES

Have you often wondered what happened to Mary, John, or Susie? Well, they are probably wondering the same thing about you!

Why not join us at the Alumni Association Annual Picnic? It is always held on the last Sunday in July at Lake Park. Just bring a salad or dessert for 12 and share in the fun. You will also be available to purchase In-and-Out Burgers as well.

If you are curious about your high school buddies, call your Class Connector to see if they have a current address or phone number. We have a very extensive data base at your disposal. The Class Connectors listed is located in the Newsletter each month.

At our last Alumni Board Meeting we voted to award four $1,000 scholarships to deserving students at HBHS. In the August Newsletter you will get to know more about these great students.

We also approved to purchase up to 15 Cauldrons for students who were not able to purchase them this year.

Remember, our annual fee is only $15 and you will receive four newsletters per year, plus a Directory of all members. The reuniting with an old friend is ...... priceless!

Sharon (Clegg Drubin) MacCallum

President

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

PRESIDENT HAS A NEW NAME

Sharon Drubin (Class of 1958) is now Sharon MacCallum. After 24 years of leading a carefree, frivolous single life, Sharon has finally settled down to the good, old-fashioned married life. She and David MacCallum were married on May 2nd in Fullerton. HBHS Alumni friends attended this joyous event. Her new husband, David, hails from North Carolina and is a retired engineer. You will be seeing more of him at our annual picnics and other functions.

MEMORIES FROM CLASSMATES

WHO GRADUATED IN THE 1930’s

Maxine Preston Inman, Class of 1930

I was born and raised in dear old Huntington Beach and dedicated to the High School, and send you a voice of gratitude for your effort in keeping HBHS history going.

Classmates from the 1930’s – do you remember the Senior Class Ditch Day, sailing from San Pedro to Catalina Island? Such an enjoyable time, especially for those of us who had never been to Catalina.

The all-out, especially arranged, formal dinner dance at the Virginia Hotel in Long Beach was attended by all seniors.

Watching the football and basketball games on the sidelines or in the bleachers were always memories of fun times!

Thank you, Maxine, for your warm thoughts about Huntington Beach and the High School.

Herbert Glenn Preston, Class of 1933

I graduated from HBHS in 1933. Virginia Eileen Popp was from the Class of 1934, and we were married on June 6, 1937. We had two children; Brenda and her husband have two children and live in Indiana, and David lives on 16 acres in Somerville, Texas. I now live on their property in my own mobile home. I worked for the government for 31 years in the San Diego area. I retired in 1975.

In 1933 no Cauldrons were printed due to the Principal, Mr. Jones and Mr. Wager, Vice Principal. They said no money was available. In 1934 they printed a booklet like the Pipeline called the Spendthrift. The only person I recognized in the Pipeline was Tony Tovatt.

I just celebrated my 94

Old history also tells you that there were many Prestons that went to HBHS from 1914 into the 1940s. My health is OK, and I don’t use a cane, walker or wheelchair. I still have my driver’s license and drive my own car. Virginia passed away right after her 87th birthday. We were just short of 64 years married.

Wow, Herbert! Good for you and thanks for sharing your memories!
