Roger and I were friends since Gage Jr High.  We spent countless hours playing ball at Salt Lake Park.  Roger's house was like the meeting place for kids in the neighborhood.  After high school Roger enlisted in the Air Force and I followed a few month later.  Although we didn't see each other much after our discharge we remained in touch.  We reconnected about 10 years ago and I would meet with him at his home in Corona.  Roger was ill for the past several years, but fought a strong battle.  He was admitted to Long Beach Veterans Hospital.  I visited him on weekends.  The last weekend in June I was ill.  I telephoned him and said I would see him on Monday or Tuesday.  Monday morning I got a call from his son telling me Roger passed away that morning.

Rest in Peace, Roger.

Roger and I lived close to each other when we went to Miles Avenue Elementary School. We were school friends and occasionally played together.  I'm sorry to say that I think he liked me more than I liked him because my strongest memory of him is when he skated over to my house to show me his new skates.  I have to admit that my behavior was totally unacceptable.  I told him to go away, that I didn't want to see him and pushed him off the sidewalk into the street.  He fell down, but fortunately wasn't hurt.  We were probably both about 8 or 9 years old.  The things you do as a kid that you would never think of doing as an adult!   I never spoke to him again, sad.  Sorry I drove you away Roger, RIP.
