Duane was born on October 27, 1950, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to his parents John William Taylor and Virginia Brown Taylor. They were great examples of love and service to others which he carried with him throughout his life. He was the 5th of 7 children.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in the England East mission for 2 years. He went on to serve several other callings throughout his life. Some of these callings included: Ward Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, and later Bishop of the 68th ward at BYU-Idaho from 2008-2011. He enjoyed being a Bishop and loved the students with all his heart.

Duane met his sweetheart and Eternal Companion, Vada De Ann Hansen, early in life and later married her on October 18, 1974, in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Duane was knowledgeable in many areas including carpentry work which he learned from his father, but he enjoyed mechanics starting at a young age. He attended Ricks College and worked for Chaffin Oldsmobile, Emerson Jenkins, and McCabe Well Drilling until 1979 when he started his career of 37 years as a Mechanic and later became Foreman for the City of Idaho Falls Equipment Shop.  He was respected by many city workers and missed after his retirement.

Duane loved the gospel and his family. He always put others first and never thought of himself. He always had a smile and warm handshake for everyone. He enjoyed camping, dutch-oven cooking, going for rides, airplanes, cars, trains, and spoiling his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 of his brothers: John Lonnie Taylor, William Dean Taylor, and Kay Warren Taylor; a son David Wayne Taylor; and 3 other children (gender unknown).
