John Edwards Bly, 67, of Lawrence, Indiana, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of humor, kindness, and creativity. Born on August 20, 1957, in Lawrence, Indiana, he was the beloved son of Dr. Phillip E. Bly and Jean Clarkson Bly.
John graduated from Lawrence Central High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Ball State University, where he was a proud member of the Delta Chi fraternity. John is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Phillip E. Bly. He is survived by his mother, Jean Clarkson Bly; his daughter, Sarah (Bly) Lamon (John); his two sons, Drew (Pockets) and Daniel Bly; his cherished granddaughters, Charly and Ruby; his sister, Betsy Bly; his brothers, David Bly (Tina) and Phillip Bly (Linda); and his loyal dog, Boris.
Known for his quick wit and natural storytelling ability, John could find humor in any situation. His comedic spirit brought joy to everyone around him. John had a deep love for motocross racing—though he often found himself crashing into his brother—along with golf, shooting pool, and camping. Twice, he competed in national 8-ball pool tournaments, a testament to his skill and passion for the game. John’s time in the Boy Scouts nurtured his lifelong love of the outdoors and camping. He was also a talented artist and worked for 38 years in marketing and graphic design, leaving behind a body of work that reflected his creativity and dedication.
Above all, John will be remembered for his generosity and big heart. He was always willing to lend a hand, share a laugh, or brighten someone’s day with his infectious personality. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Friends and family are welcome to gather for a memorial service for John on December 14, 2024 at 1:30pm at Westminster Village North, 11050 Presbyterian Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46236. Indiana Funeral Care is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
